Day Six: Dukes Bed and Board, May 25, 2012

Sayid loaded the best he ever has today as we packed up camp and headed out to Missouri. I was grateful for that, as we were leaving at 7:30 in the morning and most campers were still asleep. It seemed like such a short trip from Brown County State Park to Duke’s Bed and Board until we realized that there was a time zone change. Nevertheless, we drove about 7 hours.

Hugh and Diane Mooney have a very nice facility for the horses. There are 5 stalls and each has its own paddock. There is a very nice wash rack, a round pen, an arena and a pasture. The first thing the horses did was roll in their individual paddocks. It will be nice to let them graze a little later this afternoon this afternoon.

As we were researching reasonable distances to drive each day, I decided that six or seven hours was enough for me and the horses. Dan would rather have driven further and stayed at a state or national park. I found the Mark Twain National forest, but decided against it because we would have had to drive a couple more hours. Now I wish I had listened to Dan. It is going to be a long night with nowhere to ride and nothing to do.
